Seven more Clinical Protocols approved to improve the health of women and newborns

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Another 7 National Clinical Protocols (NCPs) in the field of obstetrics and gynecology have been agreed and approved by the Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan, which means they have become a guide to action for hundreds of medical workers in the country - specialists in these areas.

These Protocols were developed by specialists of the Republican Specialized Scientific and Practical Medical Center for Obstetrics and Gynecology with the involvement, if necessary, of specialists from other areas of healthcare.

New NCPs are a clear plan of action for a doctor for such women’s health problems that may appear during pregnancy, such as abnormal uterine bleeding, the need for induction (stimulation) of labor, ectopic (ectopic) pregnancy, cardiovascular diseases during pregnancy (diagnosis, treatment ) and others.

The main objective of the implementation of the Protocols is to ensure adequate treatment of patients at all levels of medical institutions based on modern scientific evidence.

Each NCP includes a detailed description of the origin of the problem (etymology), its severity (pathogenesis), the clinical picture of the course of the disease, the algorithm for its detection (diagnosis), as well as the examination, the collection of data on the patient’s health and the onset of the disease (history).

Strict adherence to the Protocols reduces the use of ineffective treatments and unsafe medicines.

Each Protocol also contains a treatment algorithm schedule. Here, the most important provisions are the prescription of the minimum number of the most necessary drugs and, which is very important, the use of only non-commercial names of drugs.

The NCP also contains “Criteria for assessing the quality of medical care”, which are designed to be able to analyze how much the doctor adheres to the provisions of the existing Protocol, written specifically for clear actions in a specific situation with this disease, what is the level of professionalism of this doctor?

Providing assistance to the patient cannot and should not depend on how relevant the knowledge of the doctor he turned to is, whether this doctor has professional talent or treating people is just a job for him. NCPs are designed to equalize the chances of every Uzbek citizen for quality medical care. The main thing is that they should be clearly observed by the country’s health professionals, increasing their knowledge and experience, which is necessary when following the algorithms of the Protocols.

It is no coincidence that each Protocol must be updated every 3-4 years, since concern for human health does not stand still, and modern medicine is rapidly developing. This means that doctors will also develop in compliance with the NCP. At the same time, it is important that the Clinical Protocols in the Republic of Uzbekistan are National and are used by medical organizations of all levels and forms of ownership, including private ones.

All provisions of the NCP are based on evidence-based medicine, that is, the data and experience of many doctors in different countries of the world, recorded in medical scientific publications, WHO documents, specialized Associations of obstetricians and gynecologists in various countries of the world - from Canada, the USA, Europe to the CIS countries, in particular Russia, Asian states. The approved protocols also underwent an external review by Tinatin Gagua, Doctors of Medical Sciences, WHO expert (Georgia) and Mihai Horga, UNFPA consultant on protocol development methodology (Romania).

Work on the development of specialized National Clinical Protocols at the Republican Specialized Scientific and Practical Medical Center for Obstetrics and Gynecology began in 2020. In total, 20 protocols have been developed since then, of which the first 13 were approved by the Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan in 2021. Now obstetricians and gynecologists of the country have received 7 more guidelines for practical action. At the same time, for the first time - 5 NCPs in the field of gynecology.

Work on the development and implementation of National Clinical Protocols is carried out on the basis of the resolution of the President of the country “On measures to introduce an innovative model of healthcare management in the Republic of Uzbekistan”, the decree of the head of state “On comprehensive measures to radical improvement of the healthcare system of the Republic of Uzbekistan”.

NCPs, as indicated in the documents, are created for the main and most common diseases, are based on evidence-based medicine and are harmonized with international standards.
