Uzbekistan13/09/2008Seven CIS emergency ministers sign cooperation accord in Kyrgyzstan
The session was held with the participation of representatives of the Kyrgyz, Kazakh, Armenian, Russian, Tajik, Uzbek and Belarusian emergencies ministries. The session discussed issues of cooperation between the CSTO member states’ emergencies ministries in preventing natural disasters in the CSTO member countries and in providing support to one another when such situations arise.
The following issues were raised at the session: "Basic directions of activities for the CSTO member states in setting up a system of collective reaction to emergencies for a period until 2012," "On giving the status of basic scientific institutions to several institutions of the CSTO member states in the area of preventing and removing [the consequences of] emergency situations, and civil defence"; "On a register of forces and resources, designed to remove [the consequences of] emergency situations"; "On setting up a date base, which will be structured according to risk categories, seismology, floods, civil defence resources, training of specialists, rescue equipment, communications equipment and new technology of rescue operations"; "On working out mechanisms of civil defence in carrying out rescue operations and after carrying them out"; and "On draft regulations on a working group under the CSTO coordination council of emergencies".
At the end of the session, a joint document on cooperation between members of the CSTO coordination council on emergencies was signed.
