Joint session of the Senate (upper house) of Oliy Majlis (Uzbek parliament) Committee for science, education, culture and sports and Regional Council of Surkhandarya region was held at the governors office of Surkhandarya region.

Participants of the meeting discussed implementation of the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan on health care of citizens in Surkhandarya region, UzA reports.

During discussion it was noted that to improve health condition of the population and to develop the system of public health services laws, decrees of the President of Uzbekistan, resolutions of the government, and the State program of reforming of the system of public health services, directed on reforming and perfection of structure of public health services were passed.

The modern system of providing emergency medical aid has emerged, regional branches of the Republican centre of science and the scientific medical centers of cardiology, surgery and the orthopedics, were founded and provided with the modern medical and diagnostic equipment. Termez branch of the Scientific research institute of medical rehabilitation and physiotherapy effectively operated in the region. 238 rural medical units operate in the region.

Capital reconstruction and construction of new medical institutions is carried on. 515.6 million soums were spent to purchase medical equipment in 2006 alone, of which 316 million soums were allocated from regional budget and 2 billion soums came from sponsors. Foreign investments were also attracted.
