Sergeli City Project Suspended Due to Serious Violations of Construction Regulations
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Ministry of Construction and Housing and Communal Services of Uzbekistan has suspended the implementation of the residential complex project Sergeli City, located near Tashkent.
According to the ministry’s press service, a recent inspection conducted by the state construction authority revealed serious violations of regulatory requirements at the site, situated in the Surum mahalla of Kuyichirchik district.
It was discovered that three blocks of the high-rise complex were being constructed without proper state registration, approved design and estimate documentation, or the mandatory government construction oversight. Moreover, inspectors recorded signs of damage to load-bearing concrete structures, indicating major breaches of construction technology and safety standards.
The investigation also found that the developer failed to provide adequate safety measures for the workers on site. In the underground part of the building under construction, stagnant water was detected, with no drainage system in place to remove groundwater and rainwater. This poses significant risks to the stability of the foundation and, by extension, the safety of future residents.
As a result of the inspection, the supervisory authority ordered the immediate suspension of all construction activities on blocks lacking official permits. The developer has been instructed to dismantle any structures erected in violation of regulations, promptly install a proper drainage system, and address all identified deficiencies, including ensuring safe working conditions.
Construction on the Sergeli City project will remain halted until all directives are fulfilled and regulatory compliance is fully achieved. The Ministry once again emphasized the strict liability imposed on officials for breaches of urban planning and construction standards.
