In particular, the senators approved the law on Uzbekistan’s joining the second optional protocol to the International pact on civil and political rights aimed at abolition of death penalty (New York, 15 December 1989).
Another law approved by the Senate was the law on Uzbekistan’s joining the optional protocol to the Convention on the rights of the child related to children’s participation in armed conflicts (New York, 25 May 2000).
Also approved was the law on Uzbekistan’s joining the optional protocol to the Convention on the rights of the child related to child prostitution and child pornography (New York, 25 May 2000).
The senators considered and approved the law on the country’s joining the Joint Convention on secure treatment of used fuel and radioactive waste (Vienna, 5 September 1997).
They also approved the law on ratification of the protocol to the Treaty on partnership and cooperation with the European Union in connection with joining of the EU by Bulgaria and Romania (Brussels, 20 May 2008).
The senators noted that the main aims of the treaty, signed on 21 June 1996, were creation of the framework for wide political dialogue, assisting economic partnership and cooperation in the legislative, scientific-technical and cultural-humanitarian spheres.
The members of the Senate considered changes in the structure of the Supreme Court and the Higher Economic Court, and appointed ambassadors to Russia, Israel, Kazakhstan, India and Saudi Arabia.
In all, during its two-day session, the Senate considered a total of 24 issues, the Senate press service said.
