Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 25 April, Deputy Chairperson of the Senate Committee of the Oliy Majlis on Youth, Culture and Sports D. Tashmukhamedova met with a delegation led by Natasha Azzopardi- Muscat, Director of the Country Strategies and Health Systems Division of the WHO Regional Office for Europe.

During the meeting, issues of cooperation between the representative office of the World Health Organization in Uzbekistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan were discussed, detailed information was provided on the ongoing reforms in the healthcare system of our country, in particular, work to improve the mental health of young people.

In addition, the activities of the interdepartmental working group on strengthening and preventing the well-being and mental health of adolescents and youth, created by the Senate Committee on Youth, Culture and Sports, were discussed in detail. To date, the working group has focused on the tasks and their prospects identified in the adopted recommendations and action plan to strengthen the mental health of young people for 2023.

Natasha Azzopardi- Muscat noted the ongoing reforms in our country under the leadership of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the healthcare system, in particular, on mental health issues.

In particular, she highly appreciated the introduction of the medical insurance system in the Syrdarya region, as well as its subsequent introduction in other regions of the republic.

She also proposed to expand the activities of the interdepartmental working group and take the initiative of Uzbekistan to create a regional working group, which would include representatives of the countries of Central Asia, and share its experience in this area with other countries.

At the end of the meeting, the prospects for further cooperation between the Senate of the Oliy Majlis and the World Health Organization were discussed.
