Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — From 7 to 12 November 2024, Uzbekistan will hold joint sessions of the Jokargy Kenes of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, along with regional, district, and city councils (Kengashes), including Tashkent City, to elect members of the Senate. This information was reported by Uzbekistan’s Central Election Commission (CEC).
On 2 November, the CEC held a regular meeting to discuss the organization of these joint sessions and approve a range of documents for the Senate elections to the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
In accordance with Article 76 of Uzbekistan’s Electoral Code, Senate elections must occur within a month after the election of deputies to the Jokargy Kenes and local Kengashes. Senators are elected through secret ballot at joint sessions of the respective representative bodies from among the deputies themselves.
During the meeting, the CEC approved the necessary documents for conducting the elections, including meeting protocols, deputy lists, ballots, and the protocols of the Counting Commission.
The CEC also reviewed inquiries received during the campaign for the Legislative Chamber and local Kengash deputies, and appropriate decisions were made based on the analysis of these inquiries.
