Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A delegation from the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, led by the Chairman of the Committee on Defense and Security, K. Burkhanov, participated in the expanded meeting of the Parliamentary Commission on Monitoring the Implementation of National Goals and Objectives in Sustainable Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The meeting, titled "Sustainable Development of Central Asia: The Role of Parliaments and Local Representative Bodies," was held in Astana.
During the event, which brought together parliamentarians from Central Asian countries, representatives of international organizations, as well as experts and specialists, the role of parliaments and local representative bodies in ensuring sustainable development in the region was discussed.
The active role of the Parliamentary Commission for Monitoring the Implementation of National SDGs in Uzbekistan was emphasized, as well as the large-scale reforms aimed at ensuring sustainable socio-economic development and improving the quality of life for the population.
Participants noted that Uzbekistan serves as an example of integrating global priorities into the national agenda, demonstrating significant progress in achieving the SDGs and confirming its readiness for further cooperation at regional and international levels.
The meeting also focused on environmental challenges, including climate change, water scarcity, desertification, as well as water and energy security issues.
Participants highlighted the importance of strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation, exchanging legislative experiences, and collaborating with local representative bodies of government to address these challenges.
At the conclusion of the meeting, an agreement was reached to further strengthen inter-parliamentary cooperation to achieve harmonious, inclusive, and balanced development in the region. The key role of local representative bodies was also emphasized, as their success is critical to the effective implementation of the sustainable development agenda at the local level.
