Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On February 4, 2025, the Committee of the Senate of the Republic of Uzbekistan on International Relations, Foreign Economic Relations, Foreign Investments, and Tourism held a meeting to review key legislative initiatives aimed at environmental protection and the development of international postal cooperation.
The first agenda item was the discussion of the Law “On Uzbekistan’s Accession to the Convention on Access to Information, Public Participation in Decision-Making, and Access to Justice in Environmental Matters” (Aarhus, on 25 June 1998). This Convention is a key international agreement that guarantees citizens’ rights to a favorable environment, public participation in environmental decision-making, and access to ecological information.
Uzbekistan’s accession to the Convention will facilitate the integration of its provisions into national legislation, providing a legal framework for enhancing public oversight of environmental standards in the country.
The second key issue was the discussion of the Law “On the Ratification of the Tenth Additional Protocol (Addis Ababa, on 7 September 2018) and the Eleventh Additional Protocol (Abidjan, on 26 August 2021) to the Constitution of the Universal Postal Union.” These international agreements aim to strengthen cooperation among Universal Postal Union member states, improve international postal exchanges, and enhance the quality of postal services.
Senators noted that ratifying these protocols would enable Uzbekistan to play a more active role in the Universal Postal Union, establish partnerships with international postal operators, and protect the country’s interests in this sector.
Following the committee meeting, relevant decisions were adopted to support further development in these areas.
