Senate approves the Law on the country’s accession to the international instrument on the registration of industrial designs

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- At the next plenary meeting of the Senate, the Law “On the accession of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Geneva Act of the Hague Agreement on the International Registration of Industrial Designs (on 2 July 1999, Geneva)” was considered.

During the discussion, it was noted that the Geneva Act of the Hague Agreement allows entities interested in promoting their products, primarily in foreign markets, to take advantage of a more favorable procedure for registering industrial designs compared to existing national systems.

In particular, it was emphasized that today a developer in our country, in order to obtain intellectual property protection for an industrial design in a number of countries, is forced to submit an application to the relevant department in accordance with the form and language of that country, paying each time for this procedure for each country separately.

The Geneva Act of the Hague Agreement will allow national developers to submit one application to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), which undertakes all procedures and distribution of documents.

Currently, 70 states are parties to the Geneva Act of the Hague Agreement, including most of the CIS countries.

The adoption of the Law helps to strengthen the protection of intellectual property of national manufacturers, as well as increase their responsibility when creating new products and prevent the illegal use of patented objects in production.

In addition, joining this international document will be another important step towards our country’s accession to the World Trade Organization.

The law was approved by the Senate.
