Senate approves ratification of treaty on the transfer of convicted persons between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — During its fifth plenary session, the Senate reviewed and approved the Law "On the Ratification of the Treaty Between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Kyrgyz Republic on the Transfer of Persons Sentenced to Imprisonment for the Further Execution of Their Sentence," which was signed in Tashkent on 18 July 2024.
The purpose of this Treaty is to allow convicted individuals to serve their sentences in the country of their citizenship, enabling them to stay closer to their families and facilitating their social rehabilitation. The document clearly outlines the grounds, conditions, and procedures for the transfer of convicted persons for the continued execution of their sentences in their home country.
The Treaty also regulates key aspects such as the allocation of expenses related to the transfer, procedures for resolving potential disputes, language provisions for bilateral cooperation, as well as mechanisms for amending and implementing the document. The General Prosecutor’s Offices of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan have been designated as the central authorities responsible for its enforcement.
The ratification of this Treaty will not only expedite the social adaptation of convicted individuals but also strengthen family ties, as regular communication with relatives has a positive impact on their psychological well-being and contributes to their successful reintegration into society after serving their sentence.
