Senate Approves Law Strengthening Accountability of Conformity Assessment Bodies

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — At a plenary session, the Senate of the Oliy Majlis reviewed the Law “On Amendments and Additions to Certain Legislative Acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan Aimed at Further Increasing the Accountability of Conformity Assessment Bodies and Providing Support to Entrepreneurs Who Voluntarily Recall Products.”

During the discussions, it was noted that Uzbekistan is consistently implementing measures to strengthen consumer protection and safeguard health and safety, including through the introduction of modern mechanisms into conformity assessment processes.

Senators emphasized the importance of further improving legislation to tighten accountability for violations of conformity assessment rules and to create effective mechanisms for supporting entrepreneurs who voluntarily recall products that do not meet technical regulations.

The adopted amendments provide for changes to the Civil Code, as well as to the Laws “On Consumer Protection,” “On Standardization,” and “On Technical Regulation.” The new provisions are aimed at strengthening the responsibility of conformity assessment bodies, enhancing consumer rights protection, and encouraging good-faith producers.

It was also noted that the law will help limit the circulation and consumption of substandard and potentially hazardous products while exempting from financial penalties legal entities that voluntarily withdraw from the market goods failing to meet mandatory requirements.

The Senate approved the law following the debate.
