Senate approves amendments to the Tax Code aimed at digitalization and social support

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — At today’s plenary session, the Senate reviewed and approved the Law “On Amendments and Additions to the Tax Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan.”

During the discussion, it was emphasized that in recent years, large-scale efforts have been underway in the country to eliminate bureaucratic and administrative barriers in the provision of public services. A key focus of this work is expanding the ability of citizens and entrepreneurs to independently access government services electronically, as well as improving tax administration.

With the active implementation of digital technologies, there is an objective need to further strengthen the legal framework regulating remote interaction between citizens and government bodies, including the electronic processing of documents and the use of electronic identification tools.

In this regard, the discussed Law introduces amendments to the Tax Code aimed at legitimizing methods of electronic confirmation used in electronic documents. These changes allow for unambiguous identification of a person who has given consent through an electronic signature or other authorized means.

At the same time, the period for crediting excessively paid tax amounts toward future payments is reduced from the previous 15 days to 3 working days from the date of the taxpayer’s corresponding application. This innovation is designed to increase the efficiency of tax procedures and simplify interactions between taxpayers and fiscal authorities.

Additionally, as part of social support measures, the amendments provide tax exemption on income for citizens who participated in the liquidation of the consequences of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, as well as for their spouses.

Senators stressed that the approved amendments reflect a commitment to further simplify and digitalize tax processes, expand the range of benefits for certain categories of citizens, and enhance the efficiency and accessibility of electronic public services.

Following the discussion, the Law was approved by the members of the Senate.
