Second seeded Dudi Sela , fifth seeded Bjorn Phau , sixth seed and local star Denis Istomin , seventh seed Flavio Cipolla and eighth seed Go Soeda did not have to put in much effort to move into the second round.

In the first round matches played on Tuesday, 14 October, Lu outplayed Denmark’s Kristian Pless(Den) 6-3,6-4, Israeli player Sela put out American qualifier Nathan Thompson 7-5,6-3, Germany’s Phau accounted for Marsel Ilhan of Turkey 7-5,6-2,while Japanese Soeda outplayed Korea’s Woong Sun Jun 6-3,6-4.

Sixth seed Denis Istomin played solidly to knockout lucky loser Kazakhstan’s Alexey Kedriok 7-5, 6-3 to remain the lone Uzbek player in the singles draw.

It was a bad day for other local wild cards Vaja Uzakov and Farrukh Dustov. Edouard Roger Vaselin of France outplayed Uzakov 6- 3 ,6-4, while Dustov had to retire because of a pulled hamstring against seventh seed Flavio Cipolla of Italy with the scores reading 7-5,5-2.

Other Asian players Rohan Bopanna, of India, Danai Udamchoke of Thailand, and Kazakhstan’s Yuri Schukin also made it to the last 16 in the singles
