Uzbekistan 07/06/2007 Second Regional Inter-Parliamentary Conference on HIV/AIDS to be held

Second Regional Inter-Parliamentary Conference on HIV/AIDS to be held Central Asia AIDS Control Project together with the UNAIDS Programme will hold the Second Central Asia Inter-parliamentary Conference on HIV/AIDS on 7-8 June in Astana (Kazakhstan).

 

The main topics on the agenda include the institutionalization of the UN’s "Three ones" key principles – the guiding principles for Coordination of National Responses to HIV/AIDS (one agreed AIDS action framework that provides the basis for coordinating the work of all partners; one national AIDS coordinating authority, with a broad-based multisectoral mandate; and one agreed country-level monitoring and evaluation system); creation of a stable mechanism of financing the programmes addressing HIV/AIDS for the purpose of efficient utilization of resources with the aim of localizing HIV epidemics; and sharing experience in the improvement of legislation on HIV/AIDS.

 

The members of the Inter-parliamentary Group for HIV/AIDS (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan) deputies from Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, vice premiers and ministers of healthcare of Central Asian states, as well as representatives of international organizations will participate in the meeting.

 

The event is particularly important for the consolidation of the efforts of interested parties in the issues of prevention of HIV-infection in the countries of Central Asia.
