Uzbekistan 04/11/2007 SCO to become key int’l player: Iranian VP

Iran’s first Vice-President Parviz Davoudi has said the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is poised to become an effective international player , PressTV reported.

The regional international grouping can play an effective role in international equations and reform world order based on the interests of regional countries, said Davoudi in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

The intergovernmental body, founded in 2001, has important leverages such as abundant energy and rich human resources and adjacency of its member states coupled with their common views to materialize its objectives, the official stated at the Sixth Meeting of Prime Ministers of the SCO Member States.

Davoudi said the SCO should adopt a dynamic stance towards global developments through bolstering solidarity, unity and cooperation among member states.

He voiced Tehran’s readiness to cooperate with SCO member states to maintain peace, security and welfare in the region.

China, Russia, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan are members of the SCO while Pakistan, Mongolia, Iran and India hold observer status.
