In his contribution at the extended session of the SCO Summit today in Bishkek, President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov said that the SCO Secretary General should promote and take into account interests of all countries-members, instead of pursuing narrow national interests.

"The SCO Secretary General should serve as voice of the entire organization," said Islam Karimov.

Islam Karimov suggested appointing SCO Secretary General for 5 years from influential diplomats and public figures. This will strengthen the role and responsibility of the SCO, said Islam Karimov.

Kazakh diplomat, Bolat Nurgaliev, acts as SCO Secretary General since 1 January 2007.
