According to R.Alimov, on September 18, the Secretary General of the SCO has received an invitation from the Central Election Commission of Uzbekistan with an invitation to take part in monitoring of the presidential elections of the Republic of Uzbekistan, to be held on December 4, 2016. According to paragraph 1 of the Regulations on the SCO Observer Mission in presidential and /or parliamentary elections and referendums, the mission is organized and coordinated by the secretariat in consultation with the Council of National Coordinators.
At its last meeting, conducted in Beijing on 20-23 September this year, the national coordinators of the SCO member states expressed the favor of the direction of the mission in Uzbekistan. The Secretariat has started the formation procedure of the SCO Observer Mission, Jahon news agency reported.
"Presidential elections in Uzbekistan are of great importance, especially for the friendly Uzbek people, as well as the whole region and the SCO area, - said the Secretary General of the SCO. - Uzbekistan stood for the creation of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, has made and continues to make a significant contribution to the establishment and development of the organization."
"We look forward to continued active participation of Uzbekistan in the SCO activity and greater contributions to the advancement of multilateral cooperation", - said Alimov.
