SCO condemns any unilateral build-up of missile defences
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) signed a declaration condemning any unilateral build-up of missile defences after their leaders met in the Kazakh capital.

"The unilateral and unlimited build-up of missile defence by a single state or by a narrow group of states could damage strategic stability and international security," the six members of the SCO said in the declaration.

The document reads Members believe that a country or a small group of countries unilaterally and without restriction to deploy anti-missile system could undermine strategic stability and international security.

“States advocated the peaceful use of outer space, the need to ensure the security of outer space activities. Advocated the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva, developed under the framework on the prevention of placement of weapons in outer space and outer space objects or threat of use of force draft treaty legally binding,” it added.

The SCO members said, should strictly abide by the “Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.” The treaty limits the threat of proliferation of nuclear weapons, promoting nuclear disarmament process, to ensure that peaceful uses of nuclear energy in the broad field of international cooperation.

The document said weapon-free zone in Central Asia to maintain regional peace and security is an important factor, helping to strengthen the nuclear non-proliferation system, and improve the level of international and regional security, make a solid contribution. All nuclear-weapon States to sign, “Central Asian Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone Treaty,” the relevant protocols will be effective steps in this regard.

Central Asian Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone Treaty was signed in 2006 and it was signed by Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
