SCO chief says Tashkent summit to be important event in organization’s history
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Tenth session of the Council of the heads of states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization will be held on 10-11 June 2010. On the eve of the meeting, the SCO Secretary-General Muratbek Imanaliev gave interview to Jahon agency of the Uzbek Foreign Ministry.

Muratbek Imanaliev said that during nine years, the SCO became effective platform for equal and mutual beneficial cooperation of the six countries, united in common intention to ensure peace and stability in the region. Huge human and natural resources, great industrial, agriculture and scientific-technical resources, good historic neighbourhood ties and friendship of nations of the SCO allow to evaluate political and economic interaction in the regions positively.

“SCO member states follow principle on respecting each other’s developing way. The principle was included to the SCO Charter and agreement on long-term good neighborgood, friendship and cooperation”, he said.

SCO chief underlined that Uzbekistan has been chairing the organization since June 2009 and Uzbek President Islam Karimov contributed for strengthening of cooperation among the member states. He added that important initiatives of Uzbekistan contributed to development of cooperation in ensuring regional security and stability, improving interaction in economy, investment and transport.

Muratbek Imanaliev underlined that the signing of joint declaration on cooperation between the Secretariats of the SCO and the UN on 5 April 2010, which determined main principles and direction of cooperation between two organizations.

During the Tashkent summit, the SCO member states will consider a regulation on accepting new members and the rules of procedures of the organization, he said. He added that the regulation on status of observers was also adopted in Tashkent in 2004.

Mongolia, Pakistan, Iran and India became observer states, while Belarus and Sri Lanka received status of partners on dialogue, he said. Imanaliev said that Tashkent summit will enter to history of the SCO and will become new stage in developing equal and mutual beneficial partnership in various sectors.
