Schoolboys involved in Namangan car accident rented a vehicle for 200,000 soums

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The schoolboys who caused a serious traffic accident involving a truck in Namangan rented a Gentra vehicle for 200,000 soums, according to Kun.

The accident occurred on 2 October on Margilan Street in Namangan. A group of teenagers, who rented the car, were driving around the city when they collided head-on with a truck. The car was owned by a woman who had rented it out to a man, who then, without checking the necessary documents, passed the vehicle on to the teenagers for two hours.

As a result of the accident, Ayyubkhon Akramov, Musokhon Olimov—students of Namangan’s 1st vocational school—and Isokhon Karimov, a 9th-grade student of the 10th school, tragically lost their lives. The driver, Akramjon Nuriddinov, has been transferred from intensive care to a regular ward, while another passenger, Abdulaziz Khakimjonov, remains in the intensive care unit.

Following the incident, representatives of Vocational School No. 1 stated that two of the deceased students had been expelled due to excessive absences, exceeding 72 hours. However, the father of one of the victims accused the school administration of falsifying records, claiming his son had attended classes prior to the accident.

An investigation has been launched by the Namangan region’s police department to probe the transfer of the car to minors without a driver’s license, and a criminal case has been initiated.
