Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- From 23 to 25 September 2022, the 4th Central Asian Open Athletics Championship will be held in Samarkand.
More than 300 athletes from 11 countries will take part in international competitions. National teams of Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan will arrive in Uzbekistan to participate in an open tournament. They will be joined by athletes from Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines.
The sports tournament is organized by the Ministry of Sports Development, the National Olympic Committee and the Athletics Federation of the Republic of Uzbekistan with the support of the Central Asian Athletics Association and Uzbekneftegaz JSC.
The Afrosiab Arena sports complex in Samarkand was prepared for the Open Championship of Central Asia in athletics with a new running track surface and throwing sectors certified according to World athletics standards. The open tournament will be the first large-scale event after the reconstruction of the stadium.
Athletes will perform both in the main running disciplines and in technical events - high jump, pole vault, long jump, triple jump, discus, hammer, shot and spear throws.
The athletics team of Uzbekistan is announced in almost all disciplines. The winners of the 5th Islamic Solidarity Games Sharifa Davronova, Anvar Anvarov, Sukhrob Khodzhaev, Farida Solieva, Nargiza Kuchkarova and Roxana Khudoyarova will compete in the tournament.
On the third day of the competition, the next stage of the international charity run “Save Aral 2022” will be held, drawing the Cup of the Chairman of the Board of Uzbekneftegaz JSC. More than two thousand participants will support the Save Aral run, which is held to draw public attention to the environmental crisis around the Aral Sea.
