Samarkand region’s economy grows by 14% in 1H 2011
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Economy of Samarkand region of Uzbekistan grew by 14% in the first six months of 2011, UzA reported.

The growth of agriculture output made up 9.4% and construction – 43.6%. Retail trade turnover of Uzbekistan grew by 14.1% and the volume of paid services – 13.4%.

The volume of investments directed to modernization and re-equipment of enterprises was 275.9 billion soums. The volume of industrial output made up 13.1%. Share of industry in gross regional product of the region made up 13.5%.

In the reporting period, the region constructed and commissioned 551,000 square meters of houses, 51.1 km of gas and 116.4 km of water pipelines.

Share of small and private businesses in the region’s gross regional product made up 68.2%.

Some 695 standard houses at 23 districts are under construction now and main part of construction works has been completed.

The region created over 49,355 jobs in the reporting period of 2011, of which 40,700 jobs were created in rural areas. Some 16,600 graduates of professional educational establishments of the region were employed.
