Samarkand International Airport wins international contest
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Samarkand International Airport, second largest in Uzbekistan, became winner in nomination “Dynamically developing airport among the CIS states” at the competition of Civil Aviation Association “Airport”.

Samarkand airport was named at “Dynamically developing airport among the CIS states” in 2010 at the competition of Civil Aviation Association “Airport”, Uzbekistan Airways said.

The airline said that Samarkand International Airport participated in the competition “The Best Airport of the Year” and became winner several times.

Samarkand International Airport currently can accept all types of aircrafts and its capacity is 400 passengers an hour. The airport carried out significant work on improving passenger services and creating conditions for employees.

In particular, airport building was reconstructed and passenger hall was fully re-equipped. Reconstruction of runway and aircraft parking site were reconstructed.

One of the important achievements was reconstruction of commercial cargo warehouse, which improved storage and transportation of cargoes. The exploitation of warehouse allows the airport to expand cooperation with foreign states.

In early 2011, the airport introduced quality management system, meeting international standards of ISO 9001:2008.
