Sales of GM Uzbekistan in Russia fall by 8% in 1H
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- GM Uzbekistan, an Uzbek-US carmaker, realized 41,446 automobiles in Russia in January-June 2012, which is 8% less compared to the same period of 2011, Automobile Manufacturers Committee of the Association of European Businesses said.

The company said that sales of automobiles of the Uzbek carmaker grew by 2% in June 2012 from 9,402 to 9,256 units in Russia.

In January-June 2012, the Uzbek carmaker realized 24,672 units of Nexia automobiles (-5%) and 16,755 units of Matiz mini-cars (-12%) in Russia.

In June 2012, the enterprise sold 5,553 units of Nexia cars (+2%) and 3,703 units of Matiz cars (-6%) in the Russian market.

In the result of the first half of 2012, Nexia claimed the 15th place among bestselling cars in Russia and Matiz took the 22nd place.

GM Uzbekistan increased car output by 2.4% year-on-year in January-June 2012 to 108,638 units.

The plant increased production of Nexia cars by 5% to 42,704 units, Damas mini-buses – by 29.5% to 11,471, Captiva cars – by 9.3 times to 2,155 units and Spark cars by 12.7% to 14,368 units.

In January-June, the plant produced 25,164 Matiz cars (-14.4%), 12,200 units of Lacetti cars (-3.5%) and 572 Epica cars (-56.1%) and four Malibu cars.

In external market, Uzbekistan sold 58,900 cars with the export volume of US$401.8 million (+7.9% year-on-year).

Uzavtosanoat and South Korea’s Daewoo Motor created a joint venture - UzDaewoo Auto - on parity conditions with the charter capital of US$200 million. In 1996, the venture launched car production plant with the cost of US$650 million in Asaka city of Andijan region. The capacity of the venture is 200,000 cars per year.

In May 2005, Uzavtosanoat purchased 50% shares of Daewoo Motor in UzDaewoo Auto for about US$110 million. General Motors and Uzavtosanoat completed process of creation of GM Uzbekistan on the base of UzDaewooAuto in the end of March 2008. The charter capital of new venture is US$266.7 million.

General Motors owns 25% shares and plus one share in the new venture and it can increase its share up to 40%. Currently, Uzavtosanoat possesses 75% shares in GM Uzbekistan.
