Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The President’s Assistant of Uzbekistan, Said Mirziyoyeva, shared the country’s current achievements in the process of joining the World Trade Organization (WTO).
According to her, 2024 was a significant milestone in this process, thanks to large-scale economic reforms led by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
"In 2024, our country took a major step forward in this direction. This became possible due to the decisive economic reforms being implemented by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev," said Mirziyoyeva.
Last year, Uzbekistan held two key meetings of the WTO Working Group, which allowed the country to move towards forming the main membership document—the Working Group Report draft. Additionally, bilateral negotiations were concluded with 15 countries, including the USA, China, and Japan. Uzbekistan has now signed 23 agreements.
Furthermore, 20 significant laws were passed to improve business transparency and competition. These measures have become a key part of the country’s preparation for integration into the international trading community.
"This year, we will continue at the same pace, aiming to become a full member of the Organization soon. This should increase the country’s investment attractiveness and facilitate the entry of Uzbek businesses into regional and global value chains," said the President’s Assistant.
Said Mirziyoyeva emphasized that the ultimate goal of joining the WTO and economic reforms is to improve the population’s well-being, create quality jobs, and transition to more efficient economic management.
