Sports 19/11/2007 S. Korea draw with Uzbekistan in qualifier for Beijing Olympics
South Korea played a scoreless draw with Uzbekistan on Saturday in the final Asian qualifying round for next year’s Beijing Olympics, failing to clinch a berth.

South Korea retain their top seed in Group B despite the draw, as Bahrain also played goalless draw with Syria at home.

Only a single team from each group may participate in next year’s Olympics. South Korea would have secured a berth with a win over Uzbekistan, but will head home to face Bahrain to determine the final winner next week.

Three Asian teams are eligible to compete in next year’s Olympics in Beijing, where only players under the age of 23 are allowed to play alongside a limited pool of older players.

Twelve countries -- including North Korea, Saudi Arabia and Japan -- are competing in groups of three in the final regional qualifying round, through which South Korea hope to claim their sixth straight ticket to the Olympics.
