Russians stop trusting Russian television as a source of information

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The international consulting company Deloitte, headquartered in London, conducted a study of the level of Russians’ confidence in the media. It was noted that the citizens of the Russian Federation began to trust less television as a source of information. The indicator of the level of confidence has reached the lowest level since 2016, incl. reduced by another five percentage points to 23% of respondents.

Deloitte is one of the "big four" companies providing services in the field of consulting and audit.

Experts, having interviewed 1.6 thousand people. in 200 settlements in 8 federal districts of the Russian Federation, indicate the following conclusions.

Firstly, television is least trusted in large cities, incl. in Moscow (20%) and other million-plus cities (21%), as well as students (15%). The exception was the North Caucasian Federal District (center - Pyatigorsk), where the highest level of trust was recorded.

Secondly, the traditionally high level of trust in television is expressed by more age categories of citizens: 55-59 years old (32%) and over 65 years old (36%), as well as servicemen and employees of the internal affairs bodies (36%).

Thirdly, the majority of respondents (55%) consider the Internet the preferred source of news, taking into account news and official sites, social networks and blogs. Most of all, middle-aged people (35-39 years old and 45-49 years old) listen to information from analytical sources.

Experts attribute the following factors to the decline in Russians’ trust in television:

- fatigue of the country’s residents from anti-Western propaganda. This mainly concerns the younger generation, who are used to receiving information from social networks and the Internet;

- the number of people questioning the objectivity of Russian television is increasing. Many of those who trust TV are older people and those who watch TV series and entertainment shows.

In general, the Deloitte report once again confirms the downward trend in citizens’ trust in Russian television as a source of information, which continues to give way to news portals, Telegram channels and blogs on the Internet, including due to the rapid development of ICT.
