Russian Railways delegation holds talks in Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A delegation of Russian Railways led by its president Vladimir Yakunin paid a two-day visit to Uzbekistan on 10-11 April 2009. The delegation held talks with the chairman of Uzbekistan Temir Yollari (Uzbekistan Railways) Achilbay Ramatov and Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyayev.

Talks at Uzbekistan Railways
During the meeting at Uzbekistan Railways, the sides discussed perspectives of development of export-import and transit cargo transportation with the participation of the Russian and Uzbek companies, as well as effective use and development of railway infrastructure. The parties considered container transportation between ports of Dalniy Vostok and Uzbekistan.

Vladimir Yakunin recalled that Russia and Uzbekistan have container train on route - Nahodka - Vostochnaya - Alma Ata - Asaka. In 2008, over 105 containers were transported on the route and nine in January-February 2009

Yakunin said the sides agreed to develop and adopt single standardization and certification of repaired and produced rolling stocks, equipment and technologies in bilateral level and within the Council on railway transportation of the CIS and Baltic states.

Russian Railways president said that Uzbekistan Railways agreed to join programme on joint actions of Russian and Central Asian railways on realization of single approaches to railway development strategy on international transport communication.

Meeting with Uzbek Prime Minister
Russian Railways President Vladimir Yakunin also held negotiations with the Uzbek Prime Minister Shavkat Mirziyayev.

Yakunin and Mirziyayev considered perspectives of cooperation between Russia and Uzbekistan in railway transportation and within the activity of the Council on railway transportation of the CIS and Baltic states.

Head of Russian company informed the Uzbek Prime Minister about results of the talks with management of Uzbekistan Railways.

The Russian delegation got acquainted with Foundry- Mechanical Plant, Plant on Repairing of Passenger Cars, as well as Single Control Center of Uzbekistan Railways. They also visited Tashkent Railway Transport College, Tashkent Institute of Railway Transport Engineers and Tashkent Railway Station.

Results of cooperation
Volume of transported cargoes between Russia and Uzbekistan increased by 11% to 5.5 million tones in 2008, including 2.4 million tones of export cargoes and 618,600 tonnes of import cargo and 2.5 million tonnes of transit cargoes.

The growth was achieved due to increase of transportation of oil by 286,500 tonnes (twice), timber by 230,100 tonnes (16%), fertilizers by 92,600 tonnes (26%), cereal cargo by 130,700 tonnes (three times).

Transportation of export cargo grew by 113,500 tonnes or 5%. Export of oil cargoes to Uzbekistan increased by 25,900 tonnes or 5 times, timber by 169,200 tonnes (13%) and coke by 3,600 tonnes (29%).

Transportation of transit cargo in Uzbekistan rose by 251,800 tonnes or 28% and inverse direction grew by 33% to 327,800 tonnes.
