Economy05/12/2007Russian National Exhibition ends in Tashkent
The event was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade of Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Russia and the commerce and industry chambers of the two states.
Trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Russian increased by 42% and comprised over USD 3 billion in 2006. In the three quarters of 2007 the figure made up almost USD 3 billion.
The economic cooperation is developing most extensively in the fields of airplane and machinery building, food and wood processing industries, agriculture, energy, healthcare and pharmaceutics. Oil and gas, mining and metallurgy are among priority sectors in cooperation. Ties in telecommunications and software industry, chemical industry, production of construction materials, textile and tourism have wide perspectives.
More than 500 enterprises created with participation of Russian investors operate currently in Uzbekistan, and 145 Russian companies have offices in the country. In Russia, the number of joint enterprises set up with Uzbek investments is about 300.
The Russian National Exhibition provided the businessmen of the two countries with the opportunity to strengthen relations. About 200 large companies participated in the event.
They presented trucks and cars, agricultural machinery, oil and gas products, pharmaceutical products, metallurgical equipment, household equipment and goods, etc.
