Economy 25/10/2008 Russian firm starts pipe supplies to Central Asia-China gas pipeline
Central Asia-China pipeline to be build by 2010
Tashkent (UzDaily.com) -- Russia’s Vyksa Steel Works Plant (VSW), a part of United Metallurgy Company, started production and supply of large-diameter pipes for construction of Central Asia - China gas pipeline, which will link gas transportation system of China with large gas deposits in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.

In the first phase (by the end of March 2009), the plant should produce and supply 194,500 tonnes of pipes with the diameter of 1,067 mm and wall thickness of 15.9 mm with anticorrosive materials inside and outside of the pipe for the Kazakh part of the pipeline.

The pipes will be produced from X70 steel class of USA’s API Spec 5L standards and based on requirements of customer - Asian Gaspipeline. Moody International will inspect all processes - from production and testing of pipes to shipment.

In 2008-2009, United Metallurgy Company will supply about 355,000 tonnes of pipes with the diameter of 1,067 mm and thickness of 15.9mm and 19.1mm to construction of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan part of the pipeline. The project will need about 1.52 million tonnes of pipes.

Central Asia - China gas pipeline will have two lines from Samandepe deposit in Turkmenistan through Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan to China. Total extension of the pipeline will be 7,000 km, including 188 km in Turkmenistan, 560 km in Uzbekistan, 130 km in Kazakhstan and 5,000 km in China. It is expected that the project will be completed by the end of 2009.

The Kazakh part of the pipeline (Kazakhstan-China pipeline) will be constructed by Asian Gaspipeline, created by Trans-Asia Gas Pipeline Company Limited, close to China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) and KazTransGaz of Kazakhstan.

Uzbekneftegaz national holding company and CNPC created Asia Trans Gas JV LLC to build gas pipeline between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan (Uzbekistan-Kazakhstan pipeline).

Vyksa Steel Works Plant - one of Russia’s oldest metallurgical centers - was established in 1757. Today, Vyksa Steel Works is a major Russian producer of longitudinal welded pipes with various diameters designed for oil and gas production and transport, construction, and the housing and utility sector. The pipes are manufactured from sheet steel that has undergone a 100% automated ultrasonic testing. The potential pipe production capacity of Vyksa Steel Works is over 2 million tonnes a year.

Vyksa Steel Works is the world’s major producer of solid wheel designed for railroad passenger and freight cars, railroad engines, and subway trains. Under the current contract signed by OMK, Vyksa Steel Works, and Russian Railways, the Works is to supply about 5 million railroad wheels until 2010.

Vyksa Steel Works is one of the most technically equipped and modernized steel works in the Russian Federation.
