Russia remained the largest trade partner of Uzbekistan. Its share in Uzbekistan’s foreign trade turnover comprised 19.6% in the reporting period. Trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Russia grew by 6.5% in January-June 2009 to US$2.009 billion.
Uzbekistan exported goods and services for US$1.068 billion and imported commodities and services for US$991.4 million in the reporting period. It is worth to note that Uzbekistan’s imports fell from US$1.018 billion in January-June 2008.
Switzerland’s share was 12.3% in the Uzbek foreign trade turnover. Trade between the two states rose by 244.7% year-on-year. Trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Switzerland comprised US$1.286 billion.
Uzbekistan’s exports to Switzerland grew from US$349.3 million in January-June 2008 to US$1.244 billion in January-June 2009. Imports rose from US$24.4 million to US$42.3 million in the reporting period.
Trade turnover of China and Uzbekistan increased by 77% in six months of 2009 and it accounted 11.1% in total foreign trade turnover of Uzbekistan.
Chinese imports from Uzbekistan jumped to US$277.9 million in six months of 2009 from US$210.2 million in the reporting period. China exported goods and services for US$889.6 million (from US$449.4 million in Jan-Jun 2008) in the first six months of 2009.
Ukraine (7.5% in total foreign trade turnover of Uzbekistan), Kazakhstan (6.9%), Republic of Korea (4.7%), Afghanistan (3.2%), Iran (2.8%), Turkey (2.4%) and Germany (2.3%) followed top three large trade partners of Uzbekistan.
