Russia ready to grant Uzbekistan access to GLONASS

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan may gain access to the high-precision signal of the Russian satellite system GLONASS.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has agreed to initiate negotiations on this matter.

The head of state signed a decree approving the Russian government’s proposal to negotiate an agreement with the government of the Republic of Uzbekistan regarding access to the high-precision signal of the Russian Global Navigation Satellite System GLONASS.

GLONASS is a Russian global navigation satellite system designed to provide users with navigation information in various environments: land, sea, air, and space.

The system is widely used in various fields such as aviation, transportation, agriculture, construction, geodesy, and cartography. Its accuracy allows for determining the orbits of spacecraft, the location of people, animals, and property, as well as aiding in rescue operations during emergencies.

GLONASS also serves as the foundation for the state automated system "ERA-GLONASS," which responds to road traffic accidents and other emergencies on the roads of Russia. Since 2018, all vehicles sold in Russia have been equipped with subscriber terminals of this system.

In addition to Russia, global navigation satellite systems have been developed and are used in the United States (GPS), China (BeiDou), and the European Union (Galileo). There are also regional satellite navigation systems in India (NavIC, formerly known as IRNSS) and Japan (QZSS).
