Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Russia suggested considering the possibility of granting observer status to it at the International Foundation for Saving the Aral Sea. This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov in Ashgabat (Turkmenistan).
“Russia is interested in solving the problems of Aral. The members of the UN have repeatedly spoken in favor of this, but the decisive word belongs to the countries of the region. Not so long ago, we lived in a single state - the USSR, where great attention was paid to this problem, Russia offered to consider the possibility of granting it observer status at the International Foundation for Saving the Aral Sea,” Lavrov said.
He added: “We are grateful to Turkmenistan for actively supporting this request. We hope that the other participants of the Foundation will take the same decision, and Russia will be able to participate in the work of saving the lake. ”
