Uzbekistan08/08/2007Russia deports Uzbek extremist
An Uzbek national, suspected of being an emissary for an Islamic extremist group, has been deported from Russia, Interfax reported.
The case against Khaetdzhon Zhuraboyev was built in a joint operation by law enforcement agencies in Bashkortostan and Perm territory, Russia’s FSB for the Perm territory said.
"Perm Regional Industrial Court in rulings on June 22 and July 4 found Zhuraboyev guilty of violating the rules prescribed for foreign residents in Russia. He was fined 8,000 rubles and ordered deported from Russia," it said.
According to the investigation, Zhuraboyev is a supporter of a radical Islamic group. He was compelled to leave Uzbekistan while vowing to continue his activities elsewhere. Having visited a number of Islamic states and studied at Muslim religious centers, Zhuraboyev arrived in Russia as a missionary and preacher. In spring 2007 he organized religious education for Muslim youths, mostly for migrants from other towns, with the goal of sending them to foreign religious centers.
