It was noted that Uzbekistan carries out targeted work on rational use of water resources, reconstruction and construction of land-reclamation works, rehabilitation of channels, collectors, drainage networks, pump stations, introduction of trickle irrigation, etc.
It was noted that limited water use in the country allowed to decrease offtake from 13,000 cubic meters per hectare to 10,400-12,200 cubic meters per hectare. However, the figure is high in Karakalpakstan and Khorezm region, which makes up 14,000-16,000 cubic meters and 16,000-18,000 cubic meters per hectare. It was noted that there are high water loss during filtration and transportation of irrigation water.
Participants also underlined that annual demand of various sectors of economy to water is growing. The need for water is growing by 16-30 million cubic meters per year due to growth of population in the country.
Roundtable participants deemed it expedient to adopt additional measures on improving effective and rational water use, improving irrigation system and irrigation technology, water accounting, introduction of water saving technologies, and others.
Participants adopted corresponding recommendations, envisaging improving normative-legal acts directed at effective and rational water use, introduction of water saving technologies, preventing , unendorsed constructions at water-protective zones, etc.
