Rosatom takes part in the Second International Energy Forum of Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Rosatom State Corporation took part in the Second International Energy Forum of Uzbekistan, which was held in Tashkent from 18 to 20 May, bringing together representatives of the energy industry from more than 20 countries. At the largest industry platform, representatives of Rosatom spoke not only about nuclear energy, but also about other strategically important issues and areas of the fuel and energy complex.

The delegation of Rosatom was headed by Boris Arseev, Director for International Business of the State Corporation Rosatom. As part of the business program of the forum, Boris Arseev spoke at the plenary session. He spoke about the importance of nuclear energy for reducing carbon dioxide emissions and developing the country, as well as about the experience of building nuclear power plants with the VVER-1200 reference technology.

“We highly appreciate the established friendly relations between Russia and Uzbekistan. Today we are doing a lot of work together and creating a whole technology cluster. This is not only about strategic partnership in the field of nuclear energy and the application of nuclear technologies in non-energy industries. Rosatom's portfolio includes solutions in wind energy, hydropower, energy storage, as well as a whole range of solutions in such relevant sectors for Uzbekistan as thermal power and oil and gas. Rosatom is ready to offer Uzbekistan solutions that are already successfully used by large Russian oil and gas enterprises,” Boris Arseev said in his speech.

Polina Lyon, Director of the Department of Sustainable Development of Rosatom State Corporation, addressed the issues of ESG parameters in solutions for the energy industry at the panel session "Environmental Aspects of the Energy Industry". At the end of the forum, Damey Khashba, Deputy General Director of JSC Rusatom Energy Projects, at the nuclear panel session "Implementation of nuclear energy - the basis for ensuring carbon neutrality" spoke about the benefits of building a nuclear power plant in the country.

As part of the forum, Rosatom also took part in the 16th International Exhibition Power Uzbekistan 2023, presenting promising technologies in the field of nuclear energy. The guests of the exhibition had the opportunity to get to know the VVER-1200 reactor more closely. To date, this power unit is considered the safest, which is also confirmed by the IAEA.

The VVER-1200 type power unit is an evolutionary technology that uses the most advanced safety systems, which make up about 40% of the main NPP equipment. There are 4 levels of protection, active and passive security systems are used. All these generation 3+ technologies are able to ensure the safety of the station even in the most extreme conditions and at the same time do not cause any harm to the environment.
