Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Rosatom State Corporation took part in the annual Energy Week of Uzbekistan - UEW 2024, which was held in Tashkent from 14 to 16 May, bringing together representatives of the energy industry from about 30 countries. During the forum, the Rosatom delegation presented its accumulated experience in a safe and reliable energy transition based on existing projects in Russia and around the world.

The Rosatom delegation was headed by Boris Arseev, Director for International Business of the Rosatom State Corporation. As part of the business program of the forum, Boris Arseev spoke at the plenary session “Harmonization of energy policy in accordance with the national strategy of Uzbekistan.” In his speech, he spoke about the importance of finding balanced solutions when transitioning to low-carbon sources.

“It is important that the comprehensive solution covers the most advanced technologies that will shape low-carbon and climate-friendly industries.

And this is the main task of our projects. In our work with partners, we pay special attention to how to combine all generation sources to optimize the system. The most efficient and affordable system for us will be one in which the right proportions of nuclear, wind, solar and storage systems work together. And these are the solutions that we offer today for a better and balanced future,” noted Boris Arseev in his speech.

Talking about Rosatom’s solutions and approaches, Boris Arseev noted the wide scope of technologies and services offered within the partnership: “It is important for us to convey to a specific customer not only energy technologies, but also the services necessary for the energy balance. This may include digital solutions, energy storage systems and components. Such an integrated approach contributes to the development of the entire national industrial sector, which will ultimately lead to the technological sovereignty of the country. This is important for us. And I see that this approach is shared by many of our partners.”

He also drew attention to the positive experience Uzbekistan has gained in the nuclear field over the past few decades, as well as partnerships that cover non-energy applications of nuclear technologies. Among them are research reactor technologies, nuclear medicine, as well as active cooperation and support of Rosatom in the field of training personnel for the nuclear industry of Uzbekistan.

The session “Expanding the range of renewable energy sources and ensuring their successful integration” was addressed by Grigory Nazarov, General Director of the wind energy division of Rosatom. “The task of effective integration of renewable energy sources in the republic will require using the potential of the region’s energy systems already at the planning stage. Only an integrated approach that uses several low-carbon technological platforms can be optimal. Rosatom is following the path of diversifying low-carbon assets - we see synergy in the combination of nuclear and renewable energy - the first guarantees base load and ensures the delivery of power to industrial sectors, and prefabricated renewable energy sources make it possible to close current deficits. I believe that a unique advantage for low-carbon development of the electric power industry in the region is the availability of a resource for increasing the connectivity of the energy systems of Russia and Central Asia,” noted Grigory Nazarov.

As part of the forum, Rosatom took part in the 17th International Exhibition “Power Uzbekistan 2024”, presenting a reactor model for high-power nuclear power plants - VVER-1200, as well as low-power nuclear power plants, the operation of which could be seen using augmented reality technology. According to Rosatom experts, each type and type of reactor has its own key advantages and place in the energy system. The right combination of different low-carbon sources will ensure the efficiency, safety and reliability of the energy system.
