Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – Daniel Cristian Ciobanu, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Romania to Uzbekistan, participated in the Annual Meeting of Romanian Diplomacy held in Bucharest from 24 to 26 July 2024.

The theme of the meeting was "Diplomatic Actions in an Unstable World."

Before the official opening of the meeting, members of the Romanian diplomatic and consular corps were received by President Klaus Iohannis and Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu.

The meeting was inaugurated by Romanian Foreign Minister Luminița Odobescu, who highlighted that diversifying economic and energy cooperation is central to Romania’s goals with Central Asian countries.

During the opening session, Senate President Nicolae Ciucă addressed the Romanian diplomatic and consular corps, as well as the event’s guests.

According to Ambassador Daniel Cristian Ciobanu, relations between Romania and Uzbekistan are actively developing across various sectors. The meeting of the foreign ministers of Romania and Uzbekistan on 23 October 2023, provided a significant boost to strengthening cooperation.

Visits to Romania by delegations from Uzbekistan’s National Social Protection Agency (on 29 January - 2 February 2024), the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan (on 16 April 2024), the General Prosecutor’s Office and the Law Enforcement Academy of Uzbekistan (on 22-26 April 2024), as well as a visit to Uzbekistan by the head of Romania’s Agency for Monitoring and Evaluation of State Enterprises (on 4-6 June 2024), have opened new opportunities for interaction. 

An important development in transportation relations was the meeting of the Joint Romanian-Uzbek Commission on Road Transport held in Bucharest on 27-28 March 2024. 

In the parliamentary sphere, the visit of the delegation from Uzbekistan’s Oliy Majlis, led by Senate Committee Chairman for International Relations, Foreign Economic Relations, Foreign Investments, and Tourism R. Alimov, to Romania for the summer session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly (Bucharest, on 29 June - 3 July 2024) was also noteworthy.
