Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to the Republic of Uzbekistan, Daniel Cristian Chobanu, congratulated the people of Uzbekistan on the upcoming New Year.
In his message, he highlighted the successful year of 2024 for bilateral relations, emphasizing the importance of political and economic consultations, as well as the successful official delegations’ visits between the two countries.
"2024 has been a very successful year for cooperation between Romania and the Republic of Uzbekistan," Ambassador Chobanu noted.
He emphasized that significant contributions to the development of relations were made during the meeting of the Joint Romanian-Uzbek Commission on Road Transport in Bucharest, as well as during other visits, including delegations from the National Agency for Social Protection and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The Ambassador also highlighted the dynamic development of trade and economic cooperation between the two countries. According to the National Institute of Statistics of Romania, for the first 9 months of 2024, Romania’s exports to Uzbekistan increased by 332.1%, while imports from Uzbekistan to Romania rose by 168.3%.
Regarding cultural exchanges, the Ambassador noted Romania’s active participation in cultural events in Uzbekistan during 2024. Exhibitions dedicated to renowned Romanian sculptor Constantin Brâncuși and composer George Enescu were held in Tashkent, along with the screening of the historical film Maria - The Heart of Romania. Romania also participated in the Tashkent International Jazz Festival and the Boysun Bahori International Folklore Festival.
"Our main goal for the upcoming year is to continue the positive trend of our cooperation," the Ambassador said, adding that 2025 would mark the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Romania and Uzbekistan. He expressed confidence that joint efforts would lead to new achievements.
Additionally, Ambassador Chobanu shared his memories of climbing the peaks of Uzbekistan’s mountains, such as Big Chimgan and Hazrat Sultan, as well as his hot air balloon flight in honor of the 161st anniversary of Romanian diplomacy.
The Ambassador expressed sincere gratitude to the Uzbek side for fruitful cooperation and wished the people of Uzbekistan health, happiness, and prosperity in the New Year.
