Uzbekistan 28/09/2007 Role of news agencies in ICT age discussed
A new epoch in business is coming. It is the epoch, in which everything is decided by talent and time. The market’s progress is the result of good investment decisions, which are made on the basis of the information – published figures, not just figures.

Information is broadcasted and disseminated by special agencies – factories specialized in the production and distribution of information with a well-set up technology of text preparation (news, online exchange flow, databases). These messages serve as the basis for printed publications and video reports, and are served at the table of corporate clients, consumers of financial and economic information.

This topic was touched during the discussion on "the role and importance of news agencies in the conditions of developing information society" during the conference titled "The Role of modern information and communication technology in the activity of printed media and the prospects of developing Internet-resources in the country", conducted within the frame of the Media Forum on 26 September at the Business Centre in Tashkent.

The Editor-in-Chief of the UzReport.com Internet Portal Ralif Nigmatullin said in his speech that the news agencies were the intermediaries between the maximum possible number of structures providing information, and maximum possible number of consumers (among them are not only media, but also decision-makers of all levels – public sector institutions, corporations, stock exchanges, investment banks, etc).

With the increased popularity of Internet, access to information market has become much wider, but the concept of information agency has gained new meaning. Professional agencies supplying information could not remain the means of communication between the information objects – the development of the Internet search systems will at some point in time reach a certain level that will make these functions possible.

That is why news agencies are bound to constantly develop and solve not only informational, but also technological tasks. They have to expand the number of information sources, control the quality of messages, constantly develop special programmes segmenting the information, add analytical works, maintain access to different databases, simplify the processing of the fast growing volumes of information that consumers are facing.

A particular news agency’s materials make up an irreplaceable basis for the work of all other media outlets. It can be compared to the air that the newspapers and magazines, radio and TV stations breathe. Based on these messages, the editorial plans and materials are built and produced, which then reach a particular group within the audience. News only live for a few hours and are made subject to strict standards. The news style is a separate genre of information presentation – fast and easy to read, which for some people and agencies saves time. News state the facts and focus the attention on the main topic. The rest is the work of the reporters of other (quoting) media outlets.
