Role of district police in protecting rights of children discussed in Tashkent
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A five-day training-seminar on the work with under-aged children of high risk, for the listeners of the faculty on proficiency improving of the Academy of the Uzbek Internal Affairs Ministry has been organized by the National Children’ Social Adaptation Center between 16 March and 23 March 2010. Over 100 district police officers from all regions of Uzbekistan participated in the event.

The event agenda included discussion of the role of district police in increasing public awareness in the field of protecting rights and interests of a child, as well as in implementation of effective methods and forms of early prevention of asocial tendencies among the under-aged. The meeting also discussed causes and conditions, adversely influencing on the behavior of children.

Participants of the training-seminar also discussed advantages of implementation of modern psychological-pedagogic approaches to developing individual work programs with the under aged in makhallyas (traditional type of community, localized in each district of all regions across the country), in active cooperation with public entities (administration of mahallyas, schools, colleges, Kamolot organization and others). It was noted that children, should be regarded as active participants of establishing law and order, through involving them into the process of developing educational, spare time and sport programs in makhallyas, directed at positive changes in their lives.

Seminar participants have been acquainted with international experience of children police in the USA, Sweden, Nederland’s and Turkey on implementation of alternative programs of educational character and preventive approaches to law-breaking by the under-aged.

As well, participants of the event, played role games, as part of which they modeled their duty tasks on the examples of life situations with consideration of new approaches, suggested at the seminar. By the results of the event it was proposed to allot one day in a month in the schedule of district police for the work with the under-aged. At the day, the district policemen in conjunction with government and public bodies will organize various events in makhallyas, schools, lyceums and colleges.
