RISS discusses the security of Central Asia
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 3 April 2018, the Russian-Uzbek Scientific Conference "Actual problems of security in the Central Asian region and the strategy for their solution - the approaches of Russia and Uzbekistan" was held at the Russian Institute for Strategic Studies (RISS).

During the conference, the sides exchanged views on topical issues of Russian-Uzbek relations, the security of the states of Central Asia, the situation in Afghanistan and its impact on the development of the regional situation.

In particular, the speakers gave a positive assessment to the development of cooperation between Russia and Uzbekistan on a wide range of traditional and new directions within the framework of the strategic partnership, as well as the desire of the political leadership of Russia to ensure stable, peaceful and progressive development of the region as a whole.

An analysis was made of the development of key regional security problems in the context of changing the situation in Afghanistan, and outlined the principal directions for their solution.

As a result of the conference, an agreement was reached to continue cooperation between RISS and IISM on issues of mutual interest, in particular, participation of RISS experts in scientific and practical events in Uzbekistan.
