Review of average prices for the main types of agricultural and food products in Uzbekistan as of June 2020

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Center for Economic Research and Reform conducted a review of prices for food products from the consumer basket throughout the Republic as of June 2020. This was reported by the public relations service of the Center for Economic Research and Reform.

According to the results of a review of food prices, the following were revealed:

The highest prices for meat and dairy products were recorded in the city of Tashkent.

So, the price of 1 kg of beef in the capital amounted to 64350 soums and 55797 soums in Tashkent region, and the lowest prices for beef were recorded in the Republic of Karakalpakstan - 44416 soums and in Surkhandarya region - 46599 soums. In other regions of the republic, prices varied between these indicators.

The average price of beef (1 kg) throughout the Republic made up 50474 soums (an increase of 31% (or 10998 soums) compared to the same period last year). The average price of mutton (1 kg) increased by 34% and reached 52483 soums (last year for the same period it was 39863 soums). Egg prices (over a dozen) increased by 48% to 8322 soums, last year prices for the same period were 5605 soums. Prices for fish (1 kg) decreased by 5% compared to the same period last year.

There was a decrease in prices for vegetables (exceptions were potatoes and cucumbers) compared with the same period last year. That is, the demand for perishable products has decreased, therefore, prices for such products have fallen.

The average price of onions (1 kg) in June 2020 reached 1569 soums (-45%), cabbage (1 kg) 1151 soums (-37%), carrots (1 kg) 2108 soums (-15%), tomatoes (1 kg) 3601 soums (-11%). Compared to the same period of last year, the average price for potatoes (1 kg) increased by 59% to 3612 soums, while cucumbers increased by 23% and the price per 1 kg reached 2527 soums.

The average prices for melons increased compared to last year.

The average price of watermelon has risen in price by 19%, grapes by 37%, melon and pumpkin by 17%.

Beans in comparison with other products have risen in price more than other products. That is, people began to buy longer-stored products more, thereby increasing the demand for these types of products.

In 2019, as of 2 July, beans cost 8614 soums (1 kg), and in the current year, as of June 30, the price amounted to 15729 soums (an increase of 83%). Masha went up by 46%, peas by 4%.
