Revenue of MTS Uzbekistan grows by 13.6% in 3Q 2010
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Revenue of MTS Uzbekistan, largest mobile communication operator of Uzbekistan, grew by 13.6% year-on-year to US$114.9 million in the third quarter of 2010 (US$101.1 million in 3Q of 2009), the financial report of Mobile TeleSystems (MTS, Russia) for third quarter of 2010 said.

At the same time, revenue of the operator for nine months of 2010 reached US$331.7 million against US$299.8 million in the same period of 2009. The growth rate made up 11%.

Net income of MTS Uzbekistan decreased by 14.6% year-on-year in the third quarter of 2010 and made up US$27.6 million.

OIBDA rose by 23.8% year-on-year from US$52 million in the third quarter of 2009 to US$64.4 million in the same period of 2010. The company said OIBDA margin grew from 51.4% in July-September 2009 to 56.1% in the third quarter of 2010. Operating income before depreciation and amortization (OIBDA) represents operating income before depreciation and amortization. OIBDA margin is defined as OIBDA as a percentage of net revenues.

ARPU made up US$4.8 in the reporting period of 2010, while it was US$5.1 in the same period of 2009. Average monthly service revenue per subscriber (ARPU) is calculated by dividing service revenues for a given period, including interconnect and guest roaming fees, by the average number of our subscribers during that period and dividing by the number of months in that period.

The MOU grew from 500 minutes to 508 minutes in the reporting period. Average monthly minutes of usage per subscriber (MOU) is calculated by dividing the total number of minutes of usage during a given period by the average number of our subscribers during the period and dividing by the number of months in that period.

SAC fell from US$8.3 in the third quarter of 2009 to US$7.8 in the same period of 2010. Subscriber acquisition cost (SAC) is total sales and marketing expenses and handset subsidies for a given period. Sales and marketing expenses include advertising expenses and commissions to dealers.

Churn rate made up 7.2% in the reporting period against 8.1% in the third quarter of 2009, MTS reported.

The subscriber base of MTS Uzbekistan rose from 7.59 million in the third quarter of 2009 to 8.16 million in July-September 2010. The growth rate made up 7.5%.

The capital investments of MTS in Uzbekistan totalled US$19.6 million in the third quarter of 2010 and US$62,4 million in January-September 2010.
