Reconstruction of the second runway completed at Tashkent airport

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The reconstruction of the runway at the Tashkent International Airport, which began in August last year, has been completed. Starting from 12 April, a runway 3905 m long and 60 m wide has been put into operation, accepting all types of aircraft. Strip PCN - pavement classification number is 69, evenness - 5, which allows to withstand loads up to 285 tons.

The runway also has modern energy-saving lighting equipment and a landing system that complies with the first category of ICAO. This makes it possible for aircraft to land with a horizontal visibility of 800 m and a vertical visibility of 60 m.

“Today we are opening the renovated runway-2. This is a very important event for the Tashkent airport, given the fact that the runway was last reconstructed in 1996. And the condition of the runway is an essential criterion for ensuring flight safety. In addition, traffic volumes are increasing by about 50% annually. Now the air harbor of the capital receives an average of 140 flights per day. Tashkent is turning into a hub. Therefore, last summer it was decided to close Runway-2 for major reconstruction,” commented Rano Juraeva, Chairman of the Board of Uzbekistan Airports.

The runway-2 reconstruction project is estimated at 120 billion soums. The strip was designed by Development infrastructure and design. The work was carried out by the contractor Dorkompleksnab Plus.

It is worth noting that the first aircraft to land on the renovated runway will be an Uzbekistan Airways aircraft flying HY-334 from Dubai to Tashkent.
