Reconstruction of Kuylyuk and Yunusabad Markets continues in Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Reconstruction and improvement works at the Kuylyuk market in Tashkent have resumed, according to the press service of the capital’s city administration. The process had previously been temporarily suspended to prepare alternative trading spaces and ensure conditions for local entrepreneurs.

The ongoing efforts include organizing the area, improving sanitation, upgrading infrastructure, and enhancing safety. The market remains operational during the reconstruction. Additionally, a digitalization project is planned for the complex, which is expected to increase tax transparency and help reduce the shadow economy.

Previously, the market had faced various issues, such as chaotic trading, violations of sanitary standards, criminal concerns, and minor fires caused by outdated utility systems. The reorganization project aims to align the site with modern urban and international standards.

Reconstruction has also begun at the parking lot of the Yunusabad market. To replace 180 lost parking spaces, 350 temporary parking spots have been arranged along Ahmad Donish Street, including under the overpass. The parking area had previously been used for unauthorized trading from vehicles, obstructing pedestrian access.

As part of the project, a designated area will be created 50 meters from the road for vendors operating from vehicles. They will be provided with safer and more comfortable conditions. According to city officials, the works aim to improve sanitation, enhance safety, and create a more orderly trading environment.
