Recep Tayyip Erdogan received 20.7 million votes (52%) with more than 99 percent of votes counted. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, former Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, has received 15.4 million votes (38%), while Selahattin Demirtasis in third place with just 3.9 million votes (10%).

The voter turnout was 73.1 percent. About 40.9 people from 55.9 million voters participated in the elections.

The chairman of the High Election Board Sadi Guven confirmed Erdogan had a majority, with more than 99% of votes counted, and said full provisional figures would be announced on Monday and final results are due later in the week. He said that the board decided not to hold the second round of the presidential elections.

Current Turkish President Abdullah Gül will step down on 28 August, and Recep Tayyip Erdogan will replace him at this post.

It is worth to mention that first direct presidential vote came to close in Turkey. Since 1923, the country’s leader was appointed by the parliament.
