Raonic aces past second seeded Somdev to enter last eight at Tashkent Challenger 2010
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- 19 year old Canadian Milos Raonic pounded 17 aces to c shunting out second seeded Somdev Devvarman of India and create the biggest upset of the day, fourth seeded Jamaican Dustin Brown, fifth seeded Karol Beck of Slovakia and unseeded Belarusian Uladmir Ignatik were the other players to enter the last eight stage at the $1,25,000 Tashkent Challenger, an ATP Challenger series event being played at the Olympic tennis Stadium.

In the second round matches played today the 155th ranked Raonic knocked out Commonwealth Games gold medalist and the 95th ranked second seed Devvarman of India 6/4 7/6(3) in 1 hour and 18 minutes. Fourth seeded Jamaican Dustin Brown scored a 6/4 6/4 win over Canadian qualifier Vasek Pospisil .

In the longest matches of the day lasting 2 hrs 19 minutes each Fifth seed Karol Beck of Slovakia went through some anxious moments before overcoming 329th ranked Australian qualifier Rameez Junaid 6/4 ,4/6,6-3, while the 198th ranked Uladzimir Ignatik scraped past 173rd Franco Skugor of Croatia 7-6(5),3-6,7-6(4) .

In a match that evoked response today the 6ft 5 inches tall Canadian Milos Raonic , gave a lesson in serving , as he served 17 aces to secure a 6-4,7-6(3) win over the experienced Indian second seeded Somdev Devvarman.

In the first set Raonic, broke Somdev in the 5th game and hold on to his serves and take the first set 6-3. In the second set Raonic broke Somdev in the 3rd game , but Somdev showed signs of brilliance to break back immediately in the 5th game to level scores. Raonic served brilliantly then on serving seven aces to thwart Somdev's attempt to break him. Somdev too served intelligently to hold his service games and force a second set tiebreak.

In the tiebreak Raonic accelerated his serves to around 250 kmph to take a 6-4 lead, Somdev did very well to save a set point here with a brilliant dink return and reduce deficit to 6-5 , but could not control a forehand which sailed out to give Raonic a win.

Raonic who has enjoyed a brilliant year moving from 426 to 155 in the ranking list said "I'm happy to keep the same level of tennis and continue my rhythm from the last few weeks". Raonic who lost to Rafael Nadal in the Quarter finals at Tokyo last week, said he expected to have better results at the event and was feeling confident.

Raonic will take on fifth seeded Karol Beck of Slovakia in the quarterfinals, while the 109 ranked Dustin Brown of Jamaica will take on Ignatik in the quarterfinals.
