Rampant Nasaf taking nothing for granted
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Nasaf boss Anatoly Demyanenko stressed his side are leaving nothing to chance when the rampant Uzbekistan outfit host Al Faisaly in the last 16 of the AFC Cup on Tuesday.

Nasaf have cut an impressive swathe through this year's tournament so far, topping Group A with a perfect record of six wins from six games, scoring 30 goals and conceding just four in the process.

Nasaf’s campaign, which included a record 9-0 thumping of Indian side Dempo, has seen them considered among the favourites to lift the trophy but Demyanenko is taking nothing for granted when they face the Jordanians at Karshi Central Stadium.

“We watched a few recordings of Al Faisaly's matches and we could see that they have good players in every area of the side.

“However, our rivals have weaknesses too. At the same time we should not forget that the winner will be determined on the football field and in one match only.

“So it is possible that all will be decided with a penalty shootout and therefore during training, we will pay attention to this aspect.”

Nasaf go into the game on the back of a disappointing 1-1 draw at Namangan, a result that saw them slip four points behind leaders Bunyodkor and Demyanenko conceded he was worried about the morale of his side.

“Of course, conceding goal in a stoppage time will have an impact on the players,” he said.

“However, this is football and it is impossible to predict. Yet this case should be a good lesson for us.

“We will also miss injured midfielder Ilkhom Yunusov, who provides plenty of pace for us.”

However, Demyanenko promised plenty of attacking intent.

“In football, it is easier to destroy an attack than to create one,” he added.

“However, I believe in our midfielders and forwards but we'll try to keep a clean sheet because the team that opens the scoring is more likely to prevail.”

Meanwhile Latvian midfielder Andrejs Perepljotkins, who recently was called up to the national team for June's EURO 2012 qualifying matches against Israel and Austria, believes the competition will only get harder from here on in.

“We have not played against any of the serious contenders in the AFC Cup,” he said.

“As far as I know, Nasaf are stronger compared to last year. Maybe our opponents simply did not have the full details of our game.

“But in the knockout stage, all teams will give 100 per cent. There are no more weak opponents in this tournament, even the weaker teams will play well.”

Al Faislay boss Rateb Al Awadat, whose side finished second in Group C following a goalless draw against Duhok on a dramatic final day, acknowledged Nasaf's strength but hopes the Jordanians' superior experience will prove telling.

“We know that Nasaf are a serious contender,” he said.

“No wonder this team won all their matches in Group A. However, tomorrow we will go out onto the pitch with a desire to win. There will be rich international experience in our side.

“Our team has played three times in the AFC Cup finals and also participated in other tournaments. We have no-one injured or suspended in the squad and all players are ready for the match.

“I have enough information about Nasaf,” he added.

“I know the strength of the team’s foreign players- Ivan Boskovic, Andrejs Perepljotkins, Bojan Malisic and Artur Gevorkyan. Nevertheless, our goal remains unchanged - reaching the quarter-finals.

“Nasaf played against very weak opponents in their group. Our group was much stronger.”
